The Main Hall was originally constructed in 1890 for the 6th Earl Fitzwilliam as a family hunting lodge. When the twin valleys of the river Gwash were flooded in the mid 1970’s to create a reservoir, Rutland Water became Europe’s largest man-made lake The 80’s and 90’s saw the construction and expansion of what is now Rutland Hall, with the main hall and its rich history as its centerpiece.
